Devil

A group of people use an elevator.

The film is rather kitschy, but despite that, I enjoyed it. It’s nice to see films where the acting environments are limited as the story REALLY depends upon good/decent acting.. I’d say give it a watch.

Sinister

A crime author moves into a house and discovers a box of film for which he is unprepared.

“Sinister” is worthy of multiple viewings and delivers creepiness and atmosphere. I rather enjoyed the suspense throughout the film. The main baddie is a bit goofy looking, but in the right light can be spooky. Watch it.

Event Horizon

The reappearance of a missing star ship sparks a rescue mission. Who will rescue the rescuers?

Think Hellraiser in space. The film has nice pacing and performances from Sam Neill and Laurence Fishburne. “Where we’re going we won’t need eyes to see.” Watch it.

At the Devil’s Door

Possession movies are nothing new and “At the Devil’s Door” is no exception.  In this tiresome film, the Devil is on the loose looking to make a baby and later a mother.  Like Zeus, the Devil appears to be the love’em and leave’em type. What I’ve learned from watching this movie:

Possessed girls make terrible baby-sitters, The Devil does not like family photos, and the going rate for soul’s in the 80’s was $500.

I just saved you 91 minutes of your life. Skip it.

Gates of Darkness

Gloomy Gus, Stephen laments the normies and football practice in a Catholic school.

This movie has a largely directionless plot that plods along in an attempt to tell its story. To remedy this small shortcoming, “Gates of Darkness” attempts to pull you back in by throwing a lot of WTF at you at the end.

Honestly this would be a good candidate for a MST3K party with friends. For that I’d recommend it, but not for any other propose.

Paranormal Activity

A young couple encounters an unexpected visitor in their new house.

I saw this one in theaters and liked it. It is a “found footage” movie that follows a couple in their experiences in discovering what is happening. Some of the scenes are a bit boring, but it is worth it for the scenes that aren’t. Watch.

The Bye Bye Man

A shadowy figure arrives when you say its name.

Snooooooooze. Not worth the time if you are over the age of 13. Say bye bye to this film.
