Classroom 6

A TV crew investigate the haunted happenings at a school.

This is a “based upon true events” story. In it we see the dismal tale of a group of kids running around a school at night in search of the paranormal.

Your time watching this will not be well spent and the search for horror in this movie will be just as fruitless.

Skip it.

Abattoir

A journalist investigates locations of murders and discovers a bigger story.

It’s rare that new ideas bubble through the horror genre. “Abattoir” is one of them. I was pleasantly surprised that this film was not a regurgitation of tiresome tropes. This film offers the viewer the premise of locations having memories of past events and without giving too much away, what to do with them.

Worth a watch.

Sinister

A crime author moves into a house and discovers a box of film for which he is unprepared.

“Sinister” is worthy of multiple viewings and delivers creepiness and atmosphere. I rather enjoyed the suspense throughout the film. The main baddie is a bit goofy looking, but in the right light can be spooky. Watch it.

In the Mouth of Madness

An insurance investigator sets off in search of missing horror writer, Sutter Cane, but finds much more.

“In the Mouth of Madness” is a good mix of weird, spook, and creeping dread. I like this movie and I think that any fan of Lovecraft would as well. Kick back with your favorite Old One and watch it.

The Autopsy of Jane Doe

Two coroners attempt to discover the secret of an unexplained body, but what they discover is far more terrifying.

When I found this movie, I wasn’t expecting much. To my enjoyment, “The Autopsy of Jane Doe” turned out to be quite a gem. It makes excellent use of atmosphere and is definitely recommended.

We are What We are

A deeply religious family struggles to balance tradition with dinner.

Solid film. Not particularly a horror movie, but enjoyable nonetheless. Cool colors prevail in this film which lends greatly to the general mood of hopelessness.

The story is straight-forward and provides you the opportunity to figure things out without being ham-handed as it unfolds. It’s worth running an eyeball over.

Event Horizon

The reappearance of a missing star ship sparks a rescue mission. Who will rescue the rescuers?

Think Hellraiser in space. The film has nice pacing and performances from Sam Neill and Laurence Fishburne. “Where we’re going we won’t need eyes to see.” Watch it.

Lights Out

A family with a history of problems adds one more.

Not too bad. The film makes good use of light and shadow to build suspense. I like the premise and while a bit predictable, it was enjoyable.

Gates of Darkness

Gloomy Gus, Stephen laments the normies and football practice in a Catholic school.

This movie has a largely directionless plot that plods along in an attempt to tell its story. To remedy this small shortcoming, “Gates of Darkness” attempts to pull you back in by throwing a lot of WTF at you at the end.

Honestly this would be a good candidate for a MST3K party with friends. For that I’d recommend it, but not for any other propose.
